Unable to create instances in us-east-1

Whenever I try to create instances in us-east-1, there is a failure. The AWS console says

"InvalidSubnetID.NotFound" when trying to create the ELB:

I can however create instances in us-west-2 without a problem.

Most likely this - 12b8e0f#diff-ff91d3dcebecced6eb3abef62fcc2a62R36

which isn't wrong, and could be changed to allow passing in vpc/subnets values, but better would be to automatically pick those values depending on region.
