It looks like the private tokens could be a nice way to manage permissions with internal projects on gitlab.
https://research-git.uiowa.edu/api/v4/projects?private_token=YOUR_TOKEN
and private tokens can be allocated with a logged in id. This would allow remote collaborators to have access to research-git without them needing HawkIDs.
