Same here... Good news is that instead of something like this:

driver.wait(until.titleIs('Google'), 1000);

you can do this instead:

driver.wait(function() {
    return driver.getTitle().then(function(title) {
        return title === 'Google';
    });
}, 1000);

It would be nice if you could create your own until function to get that syntactic sugar back, but because of the asynchronous nature of driver.wait() and the fact that driver.getTitle() only accepts one argument (the title), it's difficult to pass in a string to test against. I suppose you could use driver.executeScriptor something to achieve that, but the above works for me!

edit: right after I saw this, I found

    var webdriver = require('selenium-webdriver')
        , By = webdriver.By
        , until = webdriver.until;

which also works since it is using the webdriver lib $PATH, you were close @paulomcnally, and you could potentially also use

    var By = require('selenium-webdriver').By;
    var until = require('selenum-webdriver').until;

but I haven't tested these yet and it's not really DRY
