Dear Codaisseur,
please consider to teach your students how to hide passwords/secrets in open source projects, how to use git properly, how to clean up git history, how to use environment variables etc. Right now it looks like a joke, really bad and evil joke, where a public template project contains a raw database connection string and many public repositories created from this template contain its own unique database connection string in the same place opened to the world. I'd suggest to contact owners of repositories created/forked from this project template to fix this issue too.
