Is there any chance you may publish PlatformIO version of Multitasking-Esp32-HTTP-FTP-Telnet-servers-for-Arduino?

Rather see it from author, before starting porting myself ;)

I’m currently working on converting the servers into an Arduino library while also addressing a few shortcomings. I don’t have experience with PlatformIO, so I’m afraid that’s not part of my plan. However, if you’d like to take on the adaptation for PlatformIO, I can share the latest files although they are sill likely to change before final release.

Main problem I have with current distribution: if I compile it with Arduino IDE - it does not connect to WiFi, not even attempting to reach DHCP, no matter what I do or what OS I use (Mac M1 or Intel, or Linux Mint).

When I take the example "Reconnect-WiFi-if-disconnected.ino" and port/run it under PlatformIO - then same ESP32 board works just fine. But then there are multiple issues in porting, due to the library is massive.

Anyway, I am more than happy to have a look what can be done with your new library.

I have converted last spring/summer this project to PlatformIO. It is quite straight forward thing. My version is rather old and bit dirty. I have not cleaned things. My goal was to make research tool to measure my sailing boat's consumer battery charge state some how. Important thing is get long log to PC analyze visually which devices consumes battery and how much. My version of Multifunction... base project is bit old (not "upgraded" to latest one in this repository). See my version from

My current interest is study can we optimize oscilloscope functionality as "fast I2S DMA" based 150k sample/s scope with multiple channels (at least two) and better trigger options (probably show data from circular buffer also before trigger like real oscilloscopes do).

I think, that with proper directory and file structure definition we can manage this project as multi platform (both Arduino and PlatformIO with same source tree). I have earlier implemented some one small project such a way where same repository contains codes for Arduino, PlatformIO and native Raspberry PI environments. Part of application sources was "common source code library" for all these environments.

I tried also convert my project (in PlatformIO environment) to use Arduino+espidf frameworks (same time). This do not success easily. Older original sources have so much compiler error and warnings when I "enable" also ESP-IDF framework. Espidf framework will enable so much more strict compile time errors and warnigs..... (this is very common problem in many hobby projects where authors are "self learned"). Try to enable compiler options -Wall and -Wextra and surprise from the result.

Hello Matti. Nice project. I'm also glad you've found the template useful.

If you are still interested in porting it to platformio, this is the current state of my work = porting the 3 servers to arduino Library:

• FTP server library is finished (not yet thoroughly tested though)
• Telnet server library is almost finished (I need to publish crontab as a separate library first since it will not get included into servers' library)
• porting the HTTP server library is still pending. I'm planning to finish it by the end of February if everything goes fine (this is just my hobby).

I was thinking that it would be good for the library if it could be used on both platforms: Arduino and PlatformIO without needing to change the code ...

The reason I'm mentioning this is that the STL also supports the use of PSRAM that you are using.

Hello

PS ram usage is implemented in my code in two points

• "main" appliocation have PS ram allocation and use example function (coditional compile only with ESP32S3
• measure.cpp uses PS ram to store run time measurement data (before writing to flash file for FTP).

One point might be update my project esp32charge version with your updated code and make my "local" patched functionalities some how more generic to fit better into your "reference" code. I have not yet checked your code updates. I found this discussion just two hours ago.

I have not maintained Arduino IDE compatibility in my project version, but it is easy task tu update if you or some one else is interested this "dual mode" functionality. Project require quite minimal source code modifications.

Thank you. I've taken a brief look at your demo code, if I'm getting it right there are some additional files (.csv, ...) and this is basically it? There may also be some linker - related issues as where the #included libraries should reside. Arduino also defines directory structure for its libraries:

main-directory: librarby.properties
main-directory/src: .h, .hpp, .cpp files
main-directory/examples/Basic_usage: Basic_usage.ino
...

Would it be possible to hide the differences between platforms with som preprocesor directives, like:

ArduinoIDE do not allow almost anything configuration tricks, but in PlatformIO side we have pre defined macro "PLATFORMIO". There is easy define any similar own macros in "paltformio.ini" configuration file (see my example project).
Syntax is:

build_flags = -DMYMACRO

Yes platform differentation works just as you ask. I have used similar method to detect compile time PC build, native Raspberry PI build, ESP32 build, AVR8 cross compile build, ARM32 cross compile build, generix Linux target build, Windows build (for example MinGW), etc...

Yes, there is also in Arduino IDE predefined macro "ARDUINO"

3. Arduino Build Environment Macros
   The Arduino IDE itself defines:

Note different environment/frameworks use different version of GCC/G++ copmpilers. So these compilers also use different default C++/G++ standard version !!! This migh produce different list of errors/warnings. You can force command line compiler (with command line option) to use some particular standard version.
